Professor Yemi Akinseye-George,Femi Falana 23 others appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria!

The Legal Practitioners Privilege Committee (LPPC) on Thursday announced the names of successful candidates for the rank of SAN.

Professor Yemi Akinseye-George a professor of Law  and 24 other lawyers are set to be elevated to the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
The elevation was endorsed at a meeting held on Thursday at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja, in accordance with the provisions of the Legal Practitioners' Act 2004.
Lawyers endorsed are Human Rights activist and former president of African Bar association Femi Falana, Rotimi Jacobs  EFCC Counsel , and others Professor Yemi Akinseye George, LL.B (Hons), LL.M (Lagos), B.L is a 1985 graduate of law from the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba. He has written extensively on various aspects of law and has engaged in the practice of law since 1986 when he was called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. A firm believer in multi-disciplinary approach to legal issues, He  has acquired wide and diversified experience in legal practice and consultancy. His one year abroad as a Fellow of the prestigious Davis Centre at Princeton University, New Jersey USA has helped to sharpen his professional skills considerably. So also has his four-year exposure to public sector legal services as Special Assistant to the Hon. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, (2003-2007). He is the President of the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies which he co-founded in 1986

Over 125 people were said to have  applied, 25 persons were deemed successful out of 71 people short-listed.

Two professors on the list are from the academia.
The newly appointed Senior Advocates will be sworn–in when the court returns from its annual vacation in September 2012. The court will be commencing its annual leave on July 18.
