PTDF Scholarship Scheme 2012 / 2013 for MSc, PhD and Undergraduate Programs

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by Decree 25 of 1973 dedicated for the purpose of development, promotion and implementation of petroleum technology and manpower development through research and training of Nigerians as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the fields of engineering, geology, geosciences, management, economics and relevant fields in the petroleum and solid minerals industry in Nigeria or abroad.

Our mission is to train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria or abroad. We have a vision to serve not only as a vessel for the development of indigenous manpower and technology transfer/acquisition in the petroleum industry but also to make Nigeria a human resource centre for the West African sub-region.
Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)

To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the MSc and PhD as well as Undergraduate Scholarships, under the 2012/2013 PTDF Scholarship Scheme. Scholarships will be awarded for studies in areas listed below, in the United Kingdom, France and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2012/2013 session. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only.

Application Forms can be accessed online using an ATM card or through purchase of a scratch card from designated major branches of First Bank of Nigeria Plc in all the States and FCT, upon payment of a NON-REFUNDABLE sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). Instructions on how to access the form online is clearly stated on the backside of the cards.

PTDF however wishes to inform applicants that the Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. With the numerous upgrade programmes executed by the Fund in some Federal Universities in Nigeria, emphasis has shifted to training Nigerians in-country. Consequently, only a limited number of candidates will be sponsored overseas and the rest in Nigerian Universities listed below.

Independence Nigeria !! lets iron things out !!

According to Robert MC Namara, a former United States Secretary of Defence " Any Society that seek to achieve adequate military security against the backdrop of acute food shortages, population explosion ,low level of productivity and per capital income, low technological development, inadequate and insufficient public utilities and chronic problem of unemployment has a false sense of security"
Nigeria has not been able to surmount any of these challenges , there are too many "little" things wrong with Nigeria cumulating and snowballing into a very big problem. Nigerians are already used to most of the so called smaller problems , it is now taken as normal not to always expect constant electricity supply, it is now seen as normal for the police to extort money from motorists at gun point , brutalize and kill citizens extra judicially , corruption is seen as a norm and most people are only waiting for their turn to get there and loot the national treasure , are we all mentally corrupt? we are satisfied with mediocrity , we have simply lost it !!
Does it ever occur to anyone that every act of corruption has a far reaching negative effect on the entire Nigerian system, would it not be desirable for us to have constant electricity supply, very good roads and network, and attain a high level of infrastructural development that can compete with that of any country in the world?

“ let me restate this even more directly; no truly perceptive mind will deny that the very sight of ostentatious consumption in the midst of societay even in society that enjoys reasonable accessibility to resources is an invitation to civic unrest and even possibly- revolution"

- Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka at a public lecture to mark the 50th anniversary of the Nigerian institute of Management (chartered) in Abuja recently

All we want is a pro active move to reverse the decay in infrastructure , most especially good roads, and ensuring the existence everything necessary to increase the living standards of the people. The Politicians are taking Nigerians for granted, milking tax payers money dry and we lack the courage to say no. why? true independence will only come when the populace gathers the courage to say "enough is enough" . if ethnic or religious differences will not allow a nationalist motivated revolution to take place then every citizens can as well take their destinies into their hands and start a regional revolution to take what we deserve.
True independence can only come with the courage to say no to the present situation !!
Happy Independence!!

Minister of Youth Development Outlines Strategies for NYSC Youth Employment & Development - Career News

Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, has laid out five strategies that his administration would engage to create jobs and ensure general development of youths in the country, saying confidently, that the youths should hold him accountable in one year.

The minister, during the conference held with youths on twitter Thursday, said that Nigerian youths would be engaged for employment through five strategies in Information and Communication Technology, agriculture, tourism, entertainment and construction sectors.

Abdullahi, who spent two hours responding to conversations from youths added that the focus of his ministry would be on job placement, skill acquisition and access to credit.

He said that an aggregate study of Nigerian youths would be conducted to analyse their demography and know the suitable interventions to employ.

This study, according to him, would advise the operation of the Youth Development Fund, which is underway. The fund, he assured, would not be limited to educated youths alone.

“This first tweet-meet will help us take an inventory of the needs and ideas of Nigerian youths and the issues raised will be considered in the order of priority for implementation,” he said.

Abdullahi also assured that the NYSC reform would be very soon and would go beyond an NYSC of national integration to an NYSC of national transformation. “At the end of one year, we want corps members who can write excellent business plans rather than those who can write an excellent resume,” he said.

As for security, the minister said the total review of NYSC will go beyond security to adding value. For the 26 million Nigerian youths, who are yet unemployed, the minister pledged to collaborate with different sectors to help them.

He noted that after the first meeting, subsequent tweet-meets would be topic specific. The recent meet was monitored by the media from the ministry.
