ISi Ewu (Spiced Goat Head) Recipe !1)

Traditionally this dish is made with the head and legs of a goat .and yes it does taste excellent prepared properly! i have adjusted the recipe here so that goat or lamb meat can be used instead. The traditional recipe also uses Utazi (a native bitter leaf). I ahve substituted a miux of Spinach and dandelion leaves which approximates the taste of Utazi
  Ingredients

500g diced kid or dice lamb
50 g spinach
5 dandelion leaves
4 Ehuru seeds
3 fresh scotch bonnet chillies, pounded to a paste
6 fresh tomatoes
2 Onions, sliced
1 clove garlic,sliced
6 tbsp palm oil (6 tbsp groundnut oil + 2tsp paprika)
3 tbsp lime juice
600 ml beef stock
1 tsp black peppercorns chopped mint to garnish
Method
Grind the garlic, chillies and tomatoes to a paste. seperately grind the enuru seeds and peppercorns together until they form a fine powder. Add the oil to a large pot and spoon in the tomato mixture. Fry on high heat for about two minutes then add the meat and the spices. Fry until the meat turns brown then add the onions. fry for a further  two minutes and add the shredded spinach and dandelion leaves. pour in the lime juice and beef stock and make it boil. reduce to a simmer and cook for about 40 minutes, until the meat is tender.
serve in bowls, garnished with chopped mint and accompanied by rice or flat bread

Salami: Jonathan’s critics partisan says Ruben Abati

Dr Ruben Abati Once one of the strongest critic of The Goodluck Jonathan Led Government but recently appointed the special Adviser on Media and publicity to the president has in recent times been trying his best to do his job and like we all know he who pays the piper dictates the tune and what happens to the principle of Dr Ruben?
The Ph.D Holder in a recent attempt to defend is boss has once again done so in this case the Salami Vs NCJ (Nigerian Judicial Commission) debacle.
Dr Ruben Abati said that Jonathan's Critic in the Salami's case are merely partisan and that those against the president's hasty assent to the NJC National judicial council's Infamous recommendation was to ensure that by approving the suspension and quickly appointing an acting President of the Court of appeal the president has infact up held the rule of law and ensure that there is no vacuum in the office of the PCA. he also stressed that if the president refused to act quickly, he would have been criticised for interfering with the affairs/ work of the Judiciary.
With due respect i believe the above line of argument suffers from the poverty of logic and at best can be described as strategic misrepresentation of facts.
First, The recommendation of the NJC was in bad faith, illegal and unconstitutional , the decision came while a law suit has been filed by Justice Ayo Salami. The recommendation of the NJC in the first place is what seeks to create the said vacuum so if the president has not hastily decided to give approval to the recommendation the argument of whether there will be a vacuum or not would not have arisen. The president's approval created the vacuum in the first instance.
Secondly,  each arm of Government should be an instrument of check and balance to prevent the excesses of the other arms ,so if president Goodluck acting for the Executive arm of Government decides to check the unconstitutional Excesses of the Judiciary when the whole country is now aware of the  notorious fact that when a matter is already in court the NJC’ had no right to take action on the same matter and acted altra vires and subjudice in taking a decision on a matter . The President would have been applauded for upholding the rule of law if he had refused to approve  a recommendation based on illegality.

BREAKING NEWS:Bomb blast hits UN building in Abuja , Nigeria

According to police spokesman  Yemi Ajayi told AFP  "I can confirm there was an explosion at the U.N. building," "We have deployed our policemen and anti-bomb squad. We can't establish how many casualties (there are)."  ambulances were seen carrying casualties from the site according to Witnesses.

In Geneva, U.N. spokeswoman Alessandra Vellucci said an official at the U.N. information centre in Lagos, Nigeria's biggest city, had confirmed that a bomb was to blame.
She had no further information and it was not clear who was responsible for the attack.
Nigeria has been hit by a wave of bombings claimed by Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect. The sect has been behind the spate of bombing mostly in the northern part of the country." Boko Haram" literally means "Western education is sinful" and is believed to have links and sponsorship from al queda an international  terrorist group.
On Thursday it bombed a police station and raided banks in a northeastern Nigerian town, leaving 12 people dead including policemen and a soldier.
Ocilaje Michael, a member of the U.N. staff working at the building was quoted to have said "We just saw the blast coming from the building. All the people in the basement were all killed. Their bodies are littered all over the place. I saw about 5 dead bodies," .  Dead bodies were being carried into an ambulance.

Breaking News: President Goodluck Jonathan approves Salami’s sack !!

Breaking News: President Goodluck Jonathan approves Salami’s sack !!

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has approved the sack /compulsory retirement of  embattled President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami.

the President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Isa Ayo Salami  who has earlier been suspended and recommended for retirement by the National Judicial Council, NJC  under the chairmanship of   the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu   after five months of excruciating probe into alleged malpractice at the top echelon of the Nigerian judiciary.

It will be recalled that it all started with a strong disagreement between the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu and the President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Justice Isa Ayo Salami, over the Sokoto State Gubernatorial Election Appeal case, the National Judicial Council (NJC) had waded into the matter.

The NJC, after an emergency meeting on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, had given Salami an ultimatum to apologise in writing to the Council and Katsina-Alu within seven days. The Council said Salami had lied on oath against it and the CJN.

Salami proceeded to drag the Council before an Abuja Federal High Court a day to the expiry date, on Monday, August 15, 2011. After days of intrigues over NJC’s alleged refusal to accept service of the court process of the suit filed by Ayo Salami, the council came up with a stiffer penalty on Salami. It suspended him from office for his refusal to apologise to NJC and Katsina-Alu (CJN). The council also forwarded a recommendation to President Goodluck Jonathan to retire Salami from service.

However this action has been condemned in many quarters as unconstitutional, illegal and an act against the rule of law as the matter is already before a court of law, a case was already in court against the action of the NJC and the commission should in respect for the rule of law waited for the determination of the suit.

Salami had earlier vowed to head back to the law court to seek redress. is Mr President too quick in approving the infamous recommendation of the Commission (NJC) ??
