(Top Players K - 3rd Grade) at the New York State Chess Championships. He started learning Chess about a year ago, and has already won seven trophies, including the New York State Chess Championship. He won the Chess event in his age group earlier this month and he was featured a NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE where it was revealed that Tani and Family are immigrants from Nigeria lived in a homeless shelter in Manhattan New York, Adewumi's chess teacher Russ Makofsky established a GOFUNDME Fund raising campaign For Tani with $ 50,000 Fifty thousand United State Dollars as the goal to help Tanitoluwa Adewumi and his family secure a home to ensure Tani's talent and future is secured.
As at the time of making this post $ 157,534 has been raised by far exceeding the original goal withing a period of just three days with donors still making more donations daily.
Tani's Family is over there in the United States trying to make a living and the talent of their child which is Chess is making a way for them. Tani is presently preparing fort Elementary National championship in May , 2019 .
Back in Nigeria there are thousands of great young talents that can put the Country in very positive light if harnessed, encouraged and supported , there are many private initiatives towards this with little or no help from the government , Chess in the slums program which is a life Changing initiative by National Chess Master Babaunde Onokoya, Chess in schools programs by many other prominent chess promoters . All that is needed to make these great young talents excel is good funding and support by private individuals and organizations. Chess is know and has been proved to improve the cognitive , quantitative and logical reasoning in Children of all ages and even adults and as a sport Nigeria deserves to have a Grand Master of chess which is the highest title awarded to a player by the Chess Governing body 'FIDE'.
